Minor in Pre-Law Description

The Minor in Pre-law includes a total of 18 credit hours (6 classes) consisting of Principles of Political Science (POLS 111), American Government (POLS 120) and Introduction to Literary Analysis and Interpretation (ENGL 162) plus your choice of two classes (6 credits) from Courts and the Judicial Process (POLS 313), American Constitutional Law (POLS 413), Administrative Law (POLS 416) or International Law and Organization (POLS 455) and two additional classes at the 200 level or above.

A Minor in Pre-law provides a competitive job advantage for students in the following majors

• Business Administration - A knowledge of law will provide the business graduate with the ability to minimize risk in business decisions by avoiding legal problems.
• Criminal Justice - A knowledge of constitutional, civil and criminal law is integral to the functioning of the criminal justice system and will provide the graduate with skills for better decision making.
• Philosophy - The law is grounded in philosophy and trains graduates to think critically. This skill will provide the graduate with a competitive edge.
• Social Work - A knowledge of legal principles is critical for graduates working with the public in often difficult situations.
• Biological Sciences/Chemistry - A pre-law minor is integral for graduates that are considering a career in such areas as environmental, patient advocacy and other scientific issues.
• Psychology - A minor in pre-law allows graduates to understand the connection between mental health, social problems and the law.
• Sociology - The pre-law minor allows graduates the competitive edge of understanding of how social forces and law are interconnected.
• Communications - The pre-law minor is integral for graduates to understand how law impacts communication policies and procedures.
