What is the Pocono Mountains Angel Network (PMAN)?
The Pocono Mountains Angel Network (PMAN) is a regional group of accredited investors who desire to invest in: seed and start-up; early stage; expansion; and later stage companies including but not limited to investments in the areas of Homeland Security, Life Sciences/Biotechnology, Financial Services, Information Technology, Healthcare and Advanced Manufacturing. This members-only organization is designed to operate as a network of private equity investors who meet on a regularly scheduled basis to evaluate and consider investment opportunities. The Pocono Mountains Angel Network provides the opportunity for members to invest collectively as a group to efficiently and effectively evaluate investment opportunities. In addition, members may invest on an individual basis.
What are the membership requirements?
To become a member of the Pocono Mountains Angel Network, an individual must be an Accredited Investor.
What is an Accredited Investor?
Accredited Investor as defined in rule 501 (a) regulation D promulgated under the Securities Act of 1933 by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission:
- Any natural person whose individual net worth, or joint net worth with that person's spouse, at the time of his/her purchase exceeds $1,000,000 (excluding the value of the primary residence);
- Any natural person who had an individual income in excess of $200,000 in each of the two most recent years or joint income with that person's spouse in excess of $300,000 in each of those years and who expects to reach same income level in the current year, or
- Certain corporations, partnerships, trust or other legal entities with assets in excess of $5,000,000.
Is the Pocono Mountains Angel Network a venture capital fund?
No. Each accredited investor of PMAN makes her or his own investment decisions. No investments are made in companies by PMAN itself or on behalf of its accredited investors.
Who is organizing the Pocono Mountains Angel Network?
The Pocono Mountains Angel Network is being organized by the Research and Economic Development division at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania.
