Policy Statement:

The chief executive responsibility will be delegated to the President’s Council when the President must be absent from campus for extended periods of time (more than three consecutive days) or cannot be reached for more than 24 hours.

The president reviews the order of succession by September 30 of each academic yer and delivers the final order of succession to the Chancellor after a resolution and vote by the Council of Trustees at their September meeting.

The chief executive responsibility during the absence of the president will be in the following order of succession for the current academic year:

  1. Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
  2. Vice President for Finance and Administration
  3. Vice President for Student Affairs
  4. Vice President for Economic Development & Research Support
  5. Vice President for Enrollment Management
  6. Chief of Staff

The Chancellor (if he/she requires), PASSHE Legal, colleague presidents, vice presidents, and university police will be notified of extended absence of the president from the campus and who the acting Chief Executive will be.

Reason for Policy:

The Order of Succession will identify in rank order, members of President's Council who will act on behalf of the president in his/her absence, in the event he/she is temporarily unable to fulfill his/her responsibilities.
