Our Campus

ESU is located on approximately 258 acres in the East Stroudsburg Borough and in Smithfield Township. Forty-six acres of the property in Smithfield Township are leased to University Properties Inc. which has constructed six buildings of student housing (accommodating 541 students) on 43 acres, and to the Visiting Nurses Association which constructed a six-bed Hospice House on three acres.

Residence Halls & Student Activity Spaces

• The nine residence halls include the addition of three new UPI residence halls, Hawthorn Suites, Hemlock Suites and Sycamore Suites. These new residence halls provide 1,460 beds and are heated and air conditioned using geothermal technology. Sycamore Suites also houses student support services including health and wellness, student conduct and community standards, the dean of students and the Title IX coordinator.
• The Student Activity Association, Inc., owns Stony Acres, a 119-acre off-campus student recreation area near Marshalls Creek, that includes a lodge and a small lake.

• The University Center includes a food court, commuter lounge, computer lab/lounge, a meeting area for the Student Government Association, and houses the Student Activity Association and ESU’s Barnes & Noble Bookstore.
• The Mattioli Recreation Center features an elevated running track, racquetball courts, an aerobics room, the latest high tech exercise equipment, 4 basketball courts, and Esports room. Approximately 1,500 students enjoy the Center’s facilities every day.

Academic Buildings

The primary academic building is Stroud Hall, a four-story classroom building that contains lecture halls, computer and language laboratories, instructional space and offices.

Other academic and student spaces include:

• Hoeffner Science and Technology Center, which opened in August 2008, which includes an observatory, teaching laboratories, research laboratories, a 200-seat auditorium, classrooms and offices. It is also home to the Schisler Museum of Wildlife & Natural History and McMunn Planetarium, which offer programs and events to thousands of visitors each year.
• Monroe Hall, which was renovated and re-opened in 2012, houses the department of communication sciences and disorders, and the department of communication, and includes laboratories, classrooms, offices and a 68-seat auditorium.
• Fine and Performing Arts Center, which consists of two theaters, a gallery, concert hall, rehearsal areas, art studios and classrooms. The space includes ESU’s Stratasys Super Lab and the multi-medium, multi-color Stratasys J750 3D printer.
• Koehler Fieldhouse, which is the primary facility for academic programs in athletic training and exercise science, and also houses intercollegiate athletics, a 2,000-seat arena, and swimming pool.
• Zimbar-Liljenstein Hall, which includes academic programs for physical education/health education and sport management, a gymnasium, and also houses the student enrollment center.
• Beers Lecture Hall, which seats 140 students and serves as a distance learning facility.
• Moore Biology building, which contains a large group lecture hall, a greenhouse and wildlife museum.
• Gessner Science Hall, which contains laboratories and also houses ESU’s Bloomberg Finance Lab.
• DeNike Center for Human Services, which includes classrooms and laboratory areas for the departments of health, nursing, and recreation and leisure services management.
• Rosenkrans Hall, which houses offices as well as classrooms and labs for digital media technologies, along with the University-Wide Tutorial Program.
• McGarry Communication Center houses two television studios, WESS 90.3 FM radio, and the instructional resources department.
• Kemp Library provides information in both print and electronic formats, with services including research assistance, interlibrary loan, and information literacy sessions, and has spaces for individual study, collaboration, innovation and learning. The library also houses the writing studio for students seeking assistance, and the Al Cohn Memorial Jazz Collection.
• The ESU Innovation Center is home to ESU’s economic development and entrepreneurship division and also includes the Dr. Jane Huffman Wildlife Genetics Institute, the Pennsylvania Tick Research Lab, the Office of Sponsored Projects and Research, the Business Accelerator and Warrior Launchpad, ESU’s Autism Center, co-working space, the Entrepreneurial Leadership Center, conference facilities and the Sterling Strauser Art Collection.

Faculty & Staff

The university faculty totals 296, while another 391 employees make up the management and non-instructional staff. Faculty members are representative of many and varied institutions of higher education in both the United States and abroad.
