Transitioning into College

For students with documented disabilities there are some differences in legal rights and responsibilities from high school to postsecondary education including intent of the law, who is covered, responsibility of identifying and documenting need, responsibility of initiating services and self-advocacy.

Requesting Accommodations

New students may complete the Accommodation Request Form after a student has been admitted to East Stroudsburg University. Placement test accommodation requests may be accessed through one of the following methods: by identifying needed accommodations through the Orientation’s registration process or contacting the Coordinator of OASIS at oasis@esu.edu or (570) 422-3954.

Getting Accommodations in College

In higher education it is the student’s responsibility to identify, request accommodations and provide documentation of their disability. Accommodations may be requested by completing the Accommodation Request Form and submitting documentation either online, mail, email, fax or in person. Accommodations may be requested after the student has been admitted into the university.
Student Rights and Responsibilities

Students with documented disabilities have the following rights and responsibilities

  • Equal access to academic content, educational opportunities and services.
  • Access to reasonable accommodations, academic adjustments and/or auxiliary aids/services.
  • Confidentiality of disability-related information and to initiate the accommodation request process and provide documentation to OASIS in a timely manner.
  • To receive reasonable accommodations for a documented disability in accordance with federal guidelines.
