The Cataloging Department of Kemp Library provides intellectual and physical access to materials in the library’s collection by adding to and maintaining bibliographic records in the online public access catalog (PILOT). In conforming to national standards, the library adheres to accepted authority and bibliographic rules, the Dewey Decimal Classification System (DDC), and Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH). These elements are hyperlinked in the catalog and enrich searching capabilities.

Departmental Policies

1. Materials are cataloged in the order in which they are received.
2. Materials requiring immediate attention are generally processed within 24 hours and held at the Circulation Desk. The person requesting expedited processing is notified.
3. ESU Master’s Theses and other materials requiring original cataloging are routinely added to the online catalog.
4. Materials are rebound, repaired, or deaccessioned on a case-by-case basis.
5. New materials in process are made available upon request.
