The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) has signed a contract with URS Corporation of Pittsburgh to prepare hazard mitigation plans for each of the 14 state universities. A disaster-resistant university (DRU) hazard mitigation plan is a plan that identifies actions a community can take to reduce or eliminate the loss of life and property damage that results from natural and human-caused hazards.
Accordingly, the ESU Disaster Resistant University Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee (DRU/HMCC) is preparing a Hazard Mitigation Plan that will be submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to be eligible for federal funding. The University is preparing such a plan to help make ESU a more disaster-resistant university.
If you would like to participate in future meetings and discussions related to the DRU/HMPC, please contact Michael C. Sachs, JD, CCEP, (570) 422-3798 for further information. The Planning Committee appreciates any input or participation you may have to offer.
