The mission of the Office of Career Services is to provide programs, services, and resources that will support and enhance the career development, career planning/preparation, and career placement experiences of our students and alumni. Career Services strives to offer the highest levels of individualized customer service in a setting of equality, dignity and mutual respect among all constituencies. Our mission will be accomplished by:
  • Providing counseling and educational programs which will empower students to make satisfying career choices, develop career plans, and take action to achieve their professional preparation and career goals;
  • Collaborating with prospective employers, community groups and members of the University community in an effort to increase learning and developmental experiences for students through career educational programming and recruitment activities; and
  • Enhancing linkages between students' academic experiences, their career development experiences, and their co–curricular and related life experiences as they plan to enter a complex, changing global society.
Equal Employment Opportunity
Employment professionals will maintain equal employment opportunity (EEO) compliance and follow affirmative action principles in recruiting activities in a manner that includes the following:
  • Recruiting, interviewing, and hiring individuals without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, or disability, and providing reasonable accommodations upon request;
  • Reviewing selection criteria for adverse impact based upon the student's race, color, national origin, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, or disability;
  • Avoiding use of inquiries that are considered unacceptable by EEO standards during the recruiting process;
  • Developing a sensitivity to, and awareness of, cultural differences and the diversity of the work force;
  • Informing campus constituencies of special activities that have been developed to achieve the employer's affirmative action goals;
  • Investigating complaints forwarded by the career services office regarding EEO noncompliance and seeking resolution of such complaints.
East Stroudsburg University is a non–discriminatory organization and employers must comply with non–discrimination practices. Positions posted with the office must comply with all federal and state affirmative action and equal employment regulations. Any organization which does not endorse this policy will be denied use of Career Services' facilities and services.
FERPA
The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 requires East Stroudsburg University to make available to a student his or her education record for the student's inspection. Thus, any materials placed in a credential file are considered "open" and available for viewing by that file owner (alumna). In situations where an employer requests confidential copies of recommendation letters, it is suggested that the applicant provide recommenders a pre–addressed and stamped envelope to be used by the recommender in which to send communication directly to prospective employer(s).
Credential Files
A credential file typically contains career–related documents, including but not limited to letters of recommendation and evaluations of work performance. It is the responsibility of the file owner to gather and submit materials for the file; it is also the responsibility of the file owner to ensure relevancy and currency of materials.

If a student/alum wants the Career Services office to mail a copy of their file, a signed Authorization to Release form must be in the file. The Office of Career Services does not accept responsibility for resultant actions on the part of prospective employers upon receipt of file contents.

It is the policy of the Office of Career Services that contents of the credential file are deemed "open" (that is, not confidential) and available for viewing by the file owner upon request.

The Office of Career Services will maintain a credential file on behalf of a graduate for up to fifteen years after graduation without annual storage fees.

Third–Party Recruiters
Third–party recruiters are defined as agencies, organizations, or individuals recruiting candidates for temporary, part–time or full–time employment opportuniites other than for their own needs. Third–party recruiters seeking to conduct on–campus recruiting will be required to disclose the identification of employers for whom the third–party recruiter is acting. Career Services reserves the right to deny access to any third–party recruiter who requires applicant fees upfront or promotes "business or entrepreneurial opportunities" rather than specific "employment opportunites."
