  • Utilize a Social Norms model to deliver current and accurate information about alcohol use at ESU.
  • Employ a Risk/Harm reduction approach that raises awareness about the negative personal, academic, and social consequences that result from dangerous drinking practices.
  • Sponsor or facilitate programs for students particularly targeting new students, resident students, fraternity/sorority members, and student athletes.
  • Recommend campus policies, practices, and procedures that are consistent with the mission statement, reduce underage drinking, and that reinforce the risk/harm reduction approach.
  • Utilize current data acquired through research and assessment activities to inform decision-making regarding policies, practices, and programs.
  • Institutionalize efforts to address problem drinking. This is a university-wide issue.
  • Facilitate curriculum infusion, a process through which discussions about the impact of alcohol abuse and its associated issues can be integrated into the syllabuses of courses that are offered regularly across the curriculum.
  • Review campus environmental factors/conditions (physical, social, economic, and legal) that impact decisions by members of the university community about alcohol use and make recommendations for change consistent with risk/harm reduction.
  • Foster partnerships thru collaboration with community leaders to address high-risk alcohol use and its impact on internal and external communities.
  • Involve students in the development of policies, programs, and practices that curb underage drinking and dangerous drinking behavior.
