History & Vision
In the fall of 1998, after much discussion on the missing component in the RA position, the RA Staff Selection Committee made a verbal proposal to instill tradition into the RA position. On January 22, 2000 their vision finally came true when the Moses Society inducted its first class of Resident Advisors into the Moses Society. The birth of the Moses Society was an exciting eventwhich brought about many new experiences for people at all levels in the Residence Life Department. The society is named after Dean Robert Moses who is Director of Residence Life and Housing at East Stroudsburg University.

A Moses member enhances the quality of life for students within the residence halls and the University Apartments. Moses members plan and coordinate extra-curricular activities, socials, educationals and community service programs, as well as other events.

There are many benefits and opportunities from being a Moses Member, which help in self-development, the Society and the residents of ESU, e.g. leadership experiences; teamwork skills; life-long friendships; and foundation for future successes in life.

The purpose of the Moses Society is:

  • to enhance the pride of being a member of the Residence Life and Housing team
  • to establish uniform recognition of the Resident Advisor staffs
  • to encourage staff unity
  • to institute guidelines of excellence for the Resident Advisors to strive toward
  • to establish tradition within the Residence Life Department
Society's Structure
The Moses Society is composed of two separate bodies. First semester Resident Advisors or returning Resident Advisors who have not met the necessary requirements to become a Moses member are known as Premos. In order to become a Moses member, Premos must meet several requirements throughout the course of the semester. The requirements are as follows: attend two Premos meetings, one Moses Society meeting, and participate in one Premos fundraiser. The Premos are led by a Representative and a Communicator, who together plan the Premos meetings, fundraisers, and events.

Once you have met those requirements you will then be eligible to be inducted into the Moses Society. Once inducted you are a Moses member for life. The Moses Society holds several meetings per semester as well as several socials, fundraisers and other events. The Moses Society is run by an executive board which is elected by Moses Society members.
