WASHINGTON, D.C. - The East Stroudsburg University women's volleyball team went all five games in each of its three matches this weekend to open the 2007 season.

The Warriors fell to UNC Pembroke on Friday night and Lees-McRae on Saturday before finishing up with a victory over Concordia.

ESU won the first and third games against UNC Pembroke and Lees-McRae, but dropped the fifth game 11-15 on Friday night and 8-15 on Saturday. The script was reversed against Concordia, as the Warriors lost games 1 and 3 to fall behind early, but won the fourth game convincingly (30-15) and closed the match with a 15-10 win in game 5.

Freshman Kayla Mahaffay turned in outstanding, consistent performances with 19 kills in each of the first two matches, and 17 in the win over Concordia. Her attack percentage was over .250 in all three matches.

Fellow freshman outside hitter Alyson Stark had 41 kills for the weekend and a hitting percentage well over .300. Junior middle Caitlin Kuhn, ESU's only returning All-PSAC East selection, had 10 kills, a .409 hitting percentage and four aces in the Warriors' victory.

Freshman setter Amy Casteel had 51 assists against UNC Pembroke and 42 assists in the other two matches. Casteel added 17 digs in the win over Concordia. Freshman Emily Detter also had two aces in the win.

Junior Kim Dormer led the defensive effort with nearly five digs per game, coming up with 73 for the weekend (24, 24 and 25).

The Warriors will be in action next weekend at the Eckerd College Tournament in Florida, where they will play Palm Beach Atlantic, Eckerd and Puerto Rico-Bayamon.
