EAST STROUDSBURG - Sophomores Trina Carito and Janelle Smith represent East Stroudsburg University on the 2008 Women's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II All-Academic Team, it has been announced.

Carito and Smith are among 222 student-athletes who were named to the team for compiling a grade-point average of 3.25 or higher while reaching the Division II indoor or outdoor provisional qualifying standard in at least one event this year.

Carito (Greenfield Township/Lakeland) has a 3.70 GPA in Secondary Education and Chemistry and won two PSAC championships as a sophomore, in the triple jump indoors and the heptathlon outdoors. She also competed in the heptathlon at the Division II outdoor championships and was a provisional qualifier in the high jump.

Smith (Auburn/Schuylkill Valley), a Speech Pathology major with a 3.58 GPA, went to the Division II indoor and outdoor championships in the high jump. She was fourth in the PSAC during the indoor season, placed seventh outdoors and won the NYC Challenge in May to qualify for the NCAA meet.

Carito and junior pole vaulter Kristen Morby were both named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II team for track and field and helped ESU lead the PSAC with 10 student-athletes on the Academic All-District teams last year.
