PHILADELPHIA - East Stroudsburg University freshman Lynn Mayer won the women's college eastern high jump and senior Iuri Pinto broke the school record in the 5000m at the 114th Penn Relays on Thursday at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

Mayer cleared 5-8 on her first attempt to win the event and just missed in her attempt at 5-10 that would have tied the school record. She was one of 17 competitors in a field that included 13 Division I athletes.

Pinto ran a time of 14:37.23 to break his previous record of 14:38.30 and placed 11th out of 40 runners in the 5000m. Pinto holds three ESU outdoor distance records after breaking the record in the mile last week in 4:10.05 at the All-American Meet at Eiler-Martin Stadium. He ran the 3000m in 8:28.42 to set the school record at last year's All-American Meet.

Mayer has won the high jump in five of the six outdoor meets she has entered this year, including the PSAC East Challenge on April 5 where she also cleared 5-8.

She earned indoor All-America honors in the high jump at the NCAA Division II championships after she tied for fifth with a mark of 5-7. She is also a member of the women's soccer team and started at defender in ESU's PSAC quarterfinal game at West Chester last fall.

The women's 4x400 relay squad of freshmen Brittiny Mackey and Jasmine Johnson, sophomore Trina Carito and junior Katherine Doyle finished third in its heat with a season-best time of 3:56.66. Johnson and Carito both ran splits of 58.8 seconds, and Doyle clocked a time of 57.6 seconds on the anchor lap.

Lafayette won the heat and Mount St. Mary's placed second, and the Warriors finished ahead of four Division I schools - Wagner, Fairleigh Dickinson, Savannah State and Fordham.

Sophomore Matt Gallup, ESU's school record holder, will compete in the men's high jump on Friday, along with the men's 4x400 relay and the men's and women's 4x200 teams.

Sophomores Kenny Cardullo (javelin), Drew Miller (triple jump) and Paul Wagner (hammer) will compete in their events on Saturday.
