NEW LONDON, Conn. - Christine Swiker won two events and set a school record as the East Stroudsburg University swimming team finished fifth at the Camel Invitational, Friday and Saturday at Connecticut College.
Swiker set the school record in the 400 IM, swimming 4:46.97 to break the old record held by Kelly Wright. Swiker also won the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.37.
Host Connecticut College finished at the top with 714 points with Wellesley College second with 490.5 points. Wheaton College was third and Colby College fourth. ESU placed fifth with 360 points.
Amber Davies was second in the 50-yard backstroke clocking in at 29.37 and Corinne Harbold also finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke with 2:34.06. The team of Davies, Swiker, Sally Kaminski, and Silvia Sutkowski were second in the 400 freestyle relay.
Harbold also collected two individual third place finishes in the 50 (29.37) and 100-yard (1:10.95) breaststrokes. Kaminski placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (25.18).
The 200-yard medley team consisting of Davies, Harbold, Kaminski, and Julie Steele (1:55.81) and the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Swiker, Steele, Kaminski, and Samantha Williams (8:19.81) each placed third.
ESU will compete during winter break on January 6, 2007 in Key Largo, Florida at the Orange Bowl Classic.
