East Stroudsburg, Pa. - After helping East Stroudsburg University record its first winning season since 1996, Ashley Miller was selected to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division team for the third year in a row.
Miller, a junior from Harrisburg, Pa., moved from third base to left field for the 2005 season and continued to excel with her best year at the plate. For the third year in a row, the Central Dauphin High grad landed on the All-PSAC East team including the first team for the second year in a row and made the second team as a freshman.
The third-year player's improvement has paralleled ESU's overall team improvement. The Warriors won 10, 14 and now 22 games this season while Miller has played. The team posted its first winning season in nine years at 22-21-1 and moved up to fifth in the East Division standings. The 22 victories were also the most by the squad since going 23-23 in 1995.
Miller set two ESU season records and missed two others by a narrow margin. Ashley lined a program record 54 hits shattering Karen Bauer record of 51 from 1996. She also broke the runs batted in mark with 34 on the year to break the old record of 30 held by ESU Athletic Hall of Fame member Denise McKeown set in 1990. She missed two others record after lacing 13 doubles missing tying the record by one and belted three home runs, one shy of the season record of four set by teammate Crissy Wontroba.
The outfielder paced the Warriors in batting average for the third year in a row at .372 as well as the leader in rbi over the same time period. She paced the team in slugging percentage as well of .538, added one triple and struck out only 13 times in 145 at bats this season. Miller rounded out her numbers with 24 runs scored, four sacrife flies and stole five bases in six attempts.
After three years, Miller has a career batting average of .341 with 126 hits in 370 at bats. She has 28 doubles, eight home runs, 54 rbi and a .486 slugging percentage.
A media communications major, Ashley is the daughter of Ron and Carol Miller of Harrisburg, Pa.
