Box Scores - W 2-1 / W 1-0

EAST STROUDSBURG - Junior outfielder Amanda Dice singled to score pinch runner Alicea Ashe for the go-ahead run in a 2-1 win in the first game, and junior pitcher Jackie Battaglino threw her first shutout of the season for a 1-0 victory in game two as East Stroudsburg University took both ends of a doubleheader from IUP on Saturday at Zimbar Field.

The Crimson Hawks (14-14) scored one run in the first inning of the opener, but senior pitcher Jennifer Bensinger and Battaglino held them scoreless over the final 13 innings of the doubleheader to help the Warriors improve to 16-11.

IUP starter Erin Holloway threw two complete games and held the ESU offense in check in the first game until the Warriors scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. The Crimson Hawks nearly scored runs in the top of the inning, but Dice threw a runner out at home after a single to left and senior catcher Amanda Feist fired down to third to get another out and end IUP's scoring threat.

Feist led off the ESU half of the sixth with a single, sophomore OF Jamie Mingis reached on an error and freshman DH Brittany Zanzalari walked to load the bases with one out. Senior 1B Kerri Jakobsen singled to left to score Feist with the tying run, and Dice followed with a base hit to center that brought Ashe around from second base to put the Warriors ahead 2-1.

Bensinger threw a perfect seventh inning to secure the win and improve to 8-6 on the season with her 10th complete game in 14 starts.

Battaglino retired the first 11 batters she faced in the second game, and while IUP managed six hits over the final four innings, they didn't push a runner across home plate. ESU got its run in the third when Dice reached on an error to open the frame and scored on a two-out single by freshman 3B Rachel Gieringer.

The Crimson Hawks had an outstanding scoring opportunity in the sixth inning but came away empty. Kristen Tunno and Alex Daughenbaugh singled to put runners at the corners with nobody out, but cleanup hitter Sam Goettman lined out to third and Gieringer tagged the bag to retire Tunno and turn the double play. Megan McCormick grounded out to Gieringer to end the inning.

In the seventh, Kelsey Ferguson had a one-out single to put the tying run on base, but Battaglino got a strikeout and a ground ball to sophomore SS Brittany Racek to end the game. The shutout was the second of Battaglino's career as she moved her season record to 8-4.

Gieringer led the Warriors' offense with three of their 11 hits, Dice was 2-for-2 in the first game including her game-winning single and scored the winning run in game two. Dice had the game-winning RBI in both games of ESU's PSAC East sweep of Millersville on Tuesday.

The Warriors host Lock Haven and All-American pitcher Kristen Erb, who set the Division II record for career victories last week, in a doubleheader on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
