EAST STROUDSBURG - Kristen Halvorsen, the Female Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year at East Stroudsburg University, has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II softball team, it was announced Thursday.
Halvorsen (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall Central) was named to the All-PSAC East second team on Wednesday and is one of two PSAC student-athletes on the All-District II team, along with West Chester outfielder Tara Colantuono. Both players were third team selections.
Halvorsen maintained a 3.91 grade-point average in Exercise Science while putting together a career as one of the top pitchers in school history. She holds school records for innings pitched, games and games started, is tied for first with 15 shutouts and ranks second with 42 career victories.
Halvorsen pitched the Warriors into the PSAC tournament for the second straight season in 2008, compiling a 2.14 earned run average and 14-17 record in 31 starts. She started all five games in the 2007 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional as ESU finished third in the eight-team tournament.
She is the sixth ESU student-athlete named to Academic All-District II teams in 2007-08, joining Sam Shuman (football), Danny Drago (men's soccer), Chris Bach (men's basketball) and Monika Fogelsanger and Jackie Yandrisevits (women's basketball).
The college division of District II covers all Division II and III institutions in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Washington, D.C. and West Virginia. First team members are placed on the Academic All-America ballot.
