LOCK HAVEN - Senior Kristen Halvorsen fired a one-hitter to tie East Stroudsburg University's career shutout record as the Warriors beat California 9-0 in five innings in the first game of the PSAC softball tournament on Thursday morning at Lock Haven.

Freshman LF Jamie Mingis was 3-for-3 to lead the Warriors, who scored six runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth to jump on the Vulcans. ESU has won its last four games by a score of 36-2, ending three games after five innings and the other in the sixth.

Freshman 2B Brittany Racek, Mingis and junior C Amanda Feist combined to go 5-for-8 with six runs and three RBI at the top of the order and ESU had seven players collect hits in the contest.

Senior CF Missy McAloon had a one-out single and stole second base to start the third inning, and Racek reached on an error by the shortstop. Mingis followed with an RBI single to plate McAloon with the game's first run.

Racek beat the throw home on a sacrifice bunt by Feist to give ESU a 2-0 lead, and senior 1B Ali Hale had a base hit that scored Mingis and moved up on the throw to put runners on second and third. Senior DH Eliza Morosco had another single that made the score 4-0, pinch runner Amanda Dice scored on an RBI groundout by sophomore RF Kara Darcey, and pinch runner Alicea Ashe came home when Cal threw the ball away on a wild pitch after a strikeout.

In the fourth, Racek led off with a single and stole second, Mingis singled to put runners at the corners and the Warriors executed a double steal to take a 7-0 lead. Feist drove a double to left-center to score another run and Darcey had an RBI single to extend the margin to 9-0.

Halvorsen retired the final 11 batters she faced and threw her second one-hitter and fourth shutout of the season. She has 15 career shutouts to match the record set by Tina Morak from 2000-03 and has won seven of her last 10 starts.

ESU plays Kutztown, the No. 1 seed in the PSAC East, at 2:30 p.m. The Warriors went 1-3 against the Golden Bears this season, including a 6-2 win on April 2 at Kutztown.
