EAST STROUDSBURG - PSAC East leader Kutztown pounded out 27 hits over two games to take both ends of a softball doubleheader (10-1, 6-2) from East Stroudsburg University on Saturday afternoon at Zimbar Field.

Six players had at least two hits in a 17-hit attack for the Golden Bears (40-8, 17-3) in the opener, led by Maria Schiavo and Caitlin Hague with three hits each. Kaitlin Arbogast surrendered only an unearned run in the third inning and struck out nine over six innings to earn the victory in the circle.

Kutztown scored three runs in the third after Schiavo led off with a single and eventually scored on a base hit by Krista Cameron. Hague lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Ashley Fitzgerald, and Maggie Reifsnyder doubled to plate the third run of the inning.

Senior OF Michelle Meyers had a leadoff single for ESU (14-27, 8-12) in the bottom of the frame and eventually scored on an error by the centerfielder. The Golden Bears responded with two runs on five hits in the fourth to go ahead 5-1, Denlinger drove in another run with a double in the fifth, and Kutztown scored four unearned runs in the sixth inning to seal the victory.

ESU struck first with two runs in the second inning in the second game. Senior 1B Ali Hale singled to open the frame and was replaced by sophomore Briana Malachowski, who later scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Senior 3B Candice Pastor also singled in the inning and scored on a triple by senior SS Laura Snyder.

Kutztown pulled even with two runs in the third, on a leadoff homer by Krista Tedjeske and an unearned run, and went ahead 3-2 when Tedjeske scored on a double by Kathy Gregg.

Monica Glomb held ESU to two hits over the final 4.1 innings in relief and earned the victory for Kutztown, and the offense pushed across three more runs to provide some breathing room.

Sophomore Jackie Battaglino threw the first six innings for the Warriors and allowed two earned runs, and freshman Sam Bastian came on in relief in the seventh.

ESU will finish the regular season with two home PSAC East doubleheaders next week, hosting Millersville on Tuesday and Mansfield on Friday at Zimbar Field.
