EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University men's soccer coach Jerry Sheska was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and nine players from the men's and women's teams were named All-PSAC it was announced by the league on Tuesday.
Sheska, who has coached at ESU for 28 seasons, was honored for the seventh time while forward Kevin Holmes was named the Rookie of the Year.
Ryan Love (Dallas/Dallas) and Copeland Lewis (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica/Munro College) joined Holmes (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica/Munro College) on the first team while Roshane Ellison (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica/Munro College), Toric Robinson (Westmoreland, Jamaica/Munro College) and Shane McFarland (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica/Munro College) were named to the second team.
For the women's team, Brittany Staub (Levittown/Neshaminy) was named to the first team and Charlene Conklin (East Greenville/Upper Perkiomen) and Janel Cleffi (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) were honored on the second team.
Sheska coached was named PSAC Coach of the Year for the men and women in 1993, 1992 and 1989 and was honored as the men's coach in 1999, 1995 and 1994.
Holmes earned Rookie of the Year honors by scoring 14 goals during the regular season, tied for the highest in the conference.
Love and Lewis were named first-team as backs and were a part of a defense that allowed just 11 goals this season. Love scored six goals, handed out four assists this season and converted three penalty kicks. He was a second-team selection last year. Lewis had one goal this season and one assist from his center back position and helped the Warriors record 10 shutouts during the regular season.
Ellison was tied for second on the team with six goals and dished out three assists while Robinson had a team-best six assists to go with his three goals. McFarland scored four goals this season.
On the women's side, Staub was selected for the first team for the third consecutive year. A center back, she was the leader of a defense that posted five shutouts with three different goalkeepers.
Conklin, a senior forward, led the team with five goals and a pair of assists. Cleffi, a midfielder, had two goals and three assists.
The ESU women finished the season 7-11-2 overall and 3-9 in conference play.
The ESU men are 17-1-3 overall and will play in the first round of the NCAA playoffs Friday against Lock Haven at 10 a.m. at Dowling College.
