KUTZTOWN – Kutztown scored two goals in the first three minutes and the Golden Bears, the No. 2 seed in the PSAC East, went on to post a 4-1 win over No. 3 East Stroudsburg University in the PSAC quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon.

Kutztown (14-4-2) struck 30 seconds in on a goal by Chelsea Bressler and went ahead 2-0 with a goal from Raven Chiara, both assisted by Chelsea Deeter. Neither team scored for the remainder of the first half, in which Kutztown outshot ESU 9-5. The Golden Bears took a 3-0 lead in the 54th minute when Jen Tice scored on an assist from Emily Froehlich.

ESU (11-7-2) came back with a goal six minutes later by sophomore midfielder Devon Miniscalco, who headed in a free kick taken by freshman midfielder Marissa Spitler. The goal was Miniscalco’s 12th of the season and gave Spitler her fourth assist.

Kutztown finished the scoring in the 69th minute as Kelly Bushe scored on a corner kick with the assist from Kelly Rozembersky.

Senior Michelle Ginn made eight saves on 14 shots by the Golden Bears. Alyssa Hackelberg had seven saves for Kutztown and ESU was credited with 10 shots.

The Warriors started six freshmen and made their third straight appearance in the PSAC playoffs for the second time in school history. ESU advanced to the semifinals the last two years and is 6-5-1 in eight PSAC playoff appearances, winning conference titles in 1994 and 1997.

This week’s NCAA Division II regional rankings will be released on Wednesday, with the Division II tournament field to be announced on Monday, November 9 at 7 p.m.
