EAST STROUDSBURG - Sophomore Samantha New scored her first goal of the season with 16:00 left to push East Stroudsburg University past Bloomsburg and into the PSAC semifinals for the first time in nine years on Tuesday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
The Warriors move on to play at West Chester, the No. 1 seed in the PSAC East, on Friday at 1 p.m. at Farrell Stadium. A win would give ESU a berth in the PSAC championship game, which would be played on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
The goal came after Bloomsburg goalkeeper Robin Gerber made one of her five saves in the game, as the rebound came back to New and she lobbed the ball into the left corner of the net.
ESU nearly scored 10 minutes earlier when freshman Kailyn Buckley hit a left-footed shot from the left wing that Gerber tipped off the crossbar.
The Warriors allowed just three shots and junior Janine Turcio made one save for her fourth shutout of the season.
ESU dropped both regular season meetings with West Chester, 2-1 in overtime on the road on Sept. 17, and 2-0 at home last Wednesday.
ESU has a 10-3-1 record since starting the season 2-3 in its first season under head coach Rob Berkowitz. The Warriors are making their sixth appearance in the PSAC women's soccer tournament and have won two championships, in 1994 and 1997.
