EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University moved back into the NSCAA/adidas Northeast Region rankings for women's soccer on Tuesday on the strength of its current five-game winning streak.
ESU is tied with Adelphia at No. 8 in this week's poll. The squad was also mentioned at No. 10 on Sept. 4 and Sept. 18.
The Warriors have won five straight games by a combined score of 18-1 and are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games.
The only loss in that stretch came in overtime (2-1) at West Chester on Sept. 17. The Golden Rams are ranked No. 1 in this week's poll and will travel to ESU for a PSAC East game next Wednesday at 5 p.m.
The Warriors are 10-4-1 on the season and second in the PSAC East with a 7-2-1 record under first-year head coach Rob Berkowitz.
The team is led by co-captains Jennifer Buckley, Janel Cleffi and Brittany Staub, a three-time first team All-PSAC East selection at back. Junior forward Lynda Hicks is the leading scorer with 10 goals. Three other players have at least six goals - Dena Shleifer (7), Tara Takac (7) and Cleffi (6).
Junior Janine Turcio has started 12 games in goal and has a 9-1-1 record. Her three shutouts include a 1-0 blanking of Millersville on Monday night.
ESU will be in action on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Mansfield at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
