WomensLacrosse.com release

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University freshman Laura Riegel has been named to the WomensLacrosse.com Division II All-Rookie team for the 2009 season.

Riegel (Royersford/Spring-Ford) was a first team All-PSAC East selection at defender and ranked 17th in Division II with 3.2 ground balls per game in her first year at ESU. She led the Warriors with 55 ground balls, was second with 17 caused turnovers and third with 27 draw controls while starting all 17 games.

A four-year letterwinner in both lacrosse and soccer in high school at Spring-Ford, Riegel stepped into a starting spot on the ESU defense that lost All-PSAC selection Janelle Cronmiller, who was fourth in the nation in ground balls a year ago. She also scored three goals, including one in the second half of a 16-15 win at Millersville.

Riegel helped ESU (7-10 overall) to a 5-5 conference record and third-place finish in the PSAC East. The Warriors will return 10 of their 12 starters and all three first team All-PSAC East players in Riegel and sophomore attackers Christine Bradley and Michelle Mangiaruga for the 2010 season.
