EAST STROUDSBURG - Sophomore Michelle Mangiaruga scored five goals and East Stroudsburg University pushed No. 3 Mercyhurst throughout the game in a 17-13 non-conference loss on Sunday morning at Whitenight Field.

The Warriors (7-9) jumped out to a quick lead with sophomore Molly O'Hara's goal 1:14 into the game. O'Hara recorded three goals on the day for her eighth hat trick of the season.

The two teams traded goals for most of the first half until Mercyhurst (13-2) took a 10-6 advantage into halftime with a pair of goals in a span of 17 seconds to close the half.

ESU fought back in the second half with sophomore Jamie Wesztergom scoring 35 seconds into the period. After a Mercyhurst goal made it 11-7, the Warriors rattled off three goals during a 1:04 stretch with two coming from the stick of O'Hara.

The Lakers again widened the margin with goals from Jessie Horeth and Lindsay Marafioti. Mangiaruga brought the Warriors back to within two with her fourth goal at the 18:17 mark before Mercyhurst began to pull away, scoring four goals in the game's final 16 minutes.

Wesztergom led the Warriors defense with six ground balls and a caused turnover while registering five draw controls on the day. O'Hara, freshman Laura Riegel, and sophomores Brittney Bissell and Christine Bradley each recorded four ground balls for ESU. In the cage, senior Kirstin Mayberry saved 14 shots for the Warriors.

Mayberry and fellow seniors Katie Cook and Sadie Barton were honored before the game, their final match at Whitenight Field.

The Warriors will finish their season as they travel to Bloomsburg next Wednesday for a PSAC East game set to start at 4 p.m.
