EAST STROUDSBURG - Sophomore Jamie Wesztergom and junior Lindsey Moyer both scored four goals apiece as East Stroudsburg University ran past Edinboro for a 22-7 win in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Whitenight Field.
The Warriors (6-7) got out to a 4-0 lead less than five minutes into the first half with goals by sophomores Michelle Mangiaruga, Morgan Knowles and Wesztergom along with an unassisted goal from freshman Jessica Curran.
Edinboro (3-8) fought back with four straight goals of its own, including two by Abbey Mackessy, who also assisted on a score by Lauren Kincaid to tie the game at 4-4. ESU then rattled off eight straight goals, including two each by Moyer and junior Sara Foley. Edinboro made it 12-5 with a Mackessy goal with 1:11 left in the half.
The Warriors had two four-goal runs in the second half to pull away from the Fighting Scots. Mangiaruga recorded her eighth hat trick on the season and four other Warriors scored two goals each - Foley, Knowles, Curran, and freshman Stephanie Konnick.
Sophomore Christine Bradley scored one goal and added to her team lead with four assists, giving her 25 goals and 19 assists (44 points) through ESU's first 13 games.
The two schools participated in "Lax 4 Life" on Saturday, a PSAC-wide initiative to support the Allyson Fund, a foundation that deals with adolescent suicide prevention. The foundation was started in memory of Allyson Green, the younger sister of West Chester goalkeeper Mary Beth Green, who took her own life two years ago.
The Warriors are back in action on Monday as they travel to West Chester for a PSAC East match up at 4 p.m. The Warriors return to Whitenight Field next Sunday for their final home game against Mercyhurst.
