Box Score

WINTER PARK, Fla. - Senior Katie Fretz scored five goals and freshman Michelle Mangiaruga had four goals, including three in a seven-minute span in the first half, as East Stroudsburg University won its lacrosse season opener 13-11 at Rollins College on Sunday afternoon.

Junior Kirstin Mayberry made 13 saves for the Warriors, who faced an early 2-0 deficit before rallying with six straight goals to take the lead for good midway through the first half.

Mangiaruga put ESU on the board on an assist from Renee Maniscalco, who led the Warriors with 41 points last season and was a first team All-PSAC selection. Freshman Molly O'Hara followed with the first of her three goals, Maniscalco added a goal of her own and Mangiaruga completed the hat trick in her first career game with 15:43 remaining in the first half.

Rollins scored twice to make the score 6-4 before Fretz scored twice in just under two minutes, and O'Hara netted her third goal of the contest with 26 seconds left in the half to give ESU a 9-5 lead.

Fretz scored again to open the second half, and then tallied another goal off an assist from Mangiaruga that put the Warriors ahead 11-7. Rollins again pulled within two, but Mangiaruga had an unassisted goal and Fretz converted on a free position shot with 13:10 left to give ESU a 13-9 cushion.

Mayberry made eight saves in the first half and five in the second to seal the victory. Senior defender Janelle Cronmiller had a team-high six ground balls and also caused two turnovers.

The Warriors will face PSAC opponent Slippery Rock for a pair of games while they are in Florida, meeting the Rock in St. Petersburg on Monday and Wednesday before returning home after spring break.
