CLARION – East Stroudsburg University freshman Karen Cash was the medalist at the Clarion Invitational at Clarion Oaks Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday, winning the rain-shortened 27-hole tournament by two strokes with a score of 117.

Cash was the top finisher in a field that included five PSAC schools. She shot a 75 on Saturday on the par-72 course, and carded a 42 over nine holes on Sunday before the remainder of the tournament was washed away.

Clarion’s Kim Dulski was second at 119, with four golfers tying for third at 120. Clarion posted a six-shot victory over West Liberty State, with Gannon, Kutztown, Mercyhurst and West Chester also representing the PSAC in the 11-school field.

ESU finished ninth overall led by Cash’s total. Junior Becky Benner shot a career-best round of 90 on Saturday, and the Warriors’ total of 584 was nine strokes better than Lake Erie and just 12 shots behind eighth-place Seton Hill.

Cash is the second golfer to earn medalist honors for the women’s golf program, which is in its second season. Briana Malachowski medaled twice last year, posting the top scores in a dual match with West Chester at Hilton Head, S.C. over spring break and at the Gettysburg Spring Invitational in April.
