EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior Ashley Kocis scored her second hat trick of the week to tie the school record for career goals while East Stroudsburg University beat Millersville, 6-1 Saturday at Whiteknight Field in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.
Kocis scored once in the first half off an assist from Kristen Trois at 34:25 and twice in the second half with one off a Cara Senese assist (64:09) and the other was unassisted (67:49). Kocis ties the school record with Karen Moliver who ended up with 46 goals in her 1985-87 career.
ESU had a 2-0 lead going into the half with goals from Senese and Kocis. After a Millersville goal by Kristie Testa at 44:42, the Warriors picked it up to rally in four more goals within the last ten minutes of play.
The first was a Sarah Cordora goal at 60:45 assisted by Trois. Four minutes later, Kocis scored her second goal, and three minutes later was her record-tying goal. To finish up the game, April Sutton scored off an advantage from a penalty corner with two seconds left.
With an energetic crowd behind them, the Warriors out shot their opponents 40-9. Both ESU goalies Miranda Fountain and Crystal Condran recorded three saves. Millersville keeper Jessica Heckman tallied 23 saves in the game.
ESU improves their record to 9-3, 5-3 in the PSAC while Millersville drops to 1-9, 3-11 in the PSAC. The Warriors will return to action on Sunday, 1 p.m. vs. Slippery Rock at Whiteknight Field.
