EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University senior Ashley Kocis (Buckingham/Central Bucks East) has been named the Athlete of the Year and five Warriors were named All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, the league announced Tuesday.
Kocis led the PSAC with 29 goals and set the ESU scoring record and earned first-team honors, as did back Katie Ord. Cara Senese, Kara Partington and Miranda Fountain were named to the second team.
Kocis is the first player from ESU to be named the field hockey athlete of the year. She scored at least one goal in 16 games and had five hat tricks, including each of the last two games. She also set the ESU career scoring record with 56 goals. She was also a first-team selection in 2004.
Ord (Palmerton/Palmerton) was the leader of a stingy ESU defense that allowed just 28 goals this season. She plays the challenging center back position and was a second-team choice in 2004.
Senese (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) played both midfield and forward and was third on the team with nine goals. She was second on the team with nine assists. She was a second-team choice in both 2004 and 2003.
Partington (Mountaintop/Crestwood) was a midfielder who had four assists while Fountain (Creamery/Perkiomen Valley) allowed just nine goals in 16 games. It was the first all-conference honor for both.
ESU concluded the season with a 13-7 record.
