EAST STROUDSBURG – Sam Santoli scored the game-winning goal 3:04 into overtime to lift Catawba (N.C.) to a 2-1 victory over No. 3 East Stroudsburg University on Monday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

The Lady Indians (4-9), who were coming off an 8-0 loss at No. 1 Bloomsburg on Sunday, trailed 1-0 at halftime but tied the game with 15 minutes left when Santoli assisted on a goal by Jillian Parisi.

Catawba fought off five shots and five penalty corners by ESU (13-6) in the final 10 minutes to take the game into overtime, where they played 6-on-7 after Kaitlin Foster received a yellow card and was sent off for five minutes with 50 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Warriors sent a shot just wide in the first minute of overtime before Catawba recorded two of its three penalty corners in the game, and Santoli scored the game-winner after ESU sophomore goalkeeper Maureen Ordnung made a save on the initial shot.

ESU held advantages of 39-6 in shots, including a 38-3 margin in regulation, and 23-3 in penalty corners (23-1 in regulation). Bronwen Gainsford made 21 saves for Catawba to keep the Warriors off the board for the final 50 minutes of the game.

Junior forward Jessica Frantz gave ESU a 1-0 lead on an assist from sophomore midfielder Amanda McGuire just under 22 minutes into the contest, which stood up until Parisi tied the game at 1-1 midway through the second half.

ESU hosts Mansfield in its final game of the regular season on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Whitenight Field. The Warriors will wait for the results of Kutztown’s two PSAC East games this week to determine whether they qualify for the PSAC tournament, and were ranked No. 3 in last week’s NCAA Division II South Region with the top three teams being selected for the NCAA tournament field.
