SHIPPENSBURG – PSAC West Player of the Year Kristina Taylor scored the game’s first goal with 6:55 left in the first half and Shippensburg went on to post a 3-0 win over East Stroudsburg University in the first round of the NCAA Division II field hockey tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors were making their fifth appearance in the NCAA field hockey championships in school history. ESU advanced to the Division II national championship game in 2001 and played in the Division III tournament in 1987, 1988 and 1990. ESU finishes the season with a 14-7 record, its most wins since a 14-win season in 2002.

Ashley Taylor, the PSAC West Freshman of the Year, scored the Red Raiders’ final two goals in the second half, the first just under seven minutes in the period and the second with 10 minutes left on an assist from Kim Tully.

Shippensburg (20-2) held a 20-14 advantage in shots, while ESU had a 13-12 margin in penalty corners, including 12 corners in the first half. Sophomore goalkeeper Maureen Ordnung had 12 saves for the Warriors and Amanda Houser made nine saves for Shippensburg, which advances to next weekend’s NCAA Division II semifinals.

Junior forward Caitlin Brownley finished the year with 19 goals, third in school history, to go with eight assists and was named to the All-PSAC East first team. Junior midfielder Joanna Reckley (three goals, eight assists) and freshman back Mical Fink were also named to the first team and Fink was recognized as the PSAC East Freshman of the Year. Junior forward Jessica Frantz (14 goals, 10 assists) was on the second team.
