EAST STROUDSBURG - Jackie Yandrisevits scored 13 points and Monika Fogelsanger added 11 as the East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team beat Mansfield, 57-51, Wednesday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division play at Koehler Fieldhouse. With the win, ESU improved to 3-2 in conference play, its best conference start since 1998. Mansfield fell to 2-3.
Yandrisevits also grabbed nine rebounds and had three assists while Fogelsanger had a double-double with 10 rebounds. Maryellen Onofre had nine points and Amy Jones eight points, eight rebounds and two steals. Brittany Lacey made two of five three-point attempts for eight points and Keri Cahill added four assists and a steal.
The Warriors were down two early in the first half before Fogelsanger hit a free throw and Yandrisevits scored in the paint to put ESU ahead 11-10. Mansfield briefly took the lead with five minutes left in the first half but Onofre buried a three, Jones scored on a lay-up and Lacey hit a three before a Cahill lay-up and a 29-18 ESU lead at halftime.
ESU extended its lead to 15 with nine and a half minutes left in the game on a three-pointer from Onofre. Mansfield closed within five with under a minute to go and got within four before Jasmine Gittens hit a pair of free throws to seal the win.
The Warriors, 9-10 overall, will continue PSAC East play Saturday at Kutztown at 1 p.m.
