EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University junior guard Jackie Yandrisevits is the PSAC East Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week and ESU's ABC Trophy, Inc. Athlete of the Week for Dec. 21.
Yandrisevits (Wind Gap/Nazareth) averaged 21 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks as ESU went 1-1, beating Slippery Rock 85-72 on Wednesday to rebound from a 70-62 loss to Edinboro the previous night.
A preseason All-PSAC East selection, Yandrisevits scored a season-high 28 points and set a career-high with 12 rebounds in the Warriors' win over Slippery Rock. She was 10-of-13 from the field and 3-for-3 from three-point range and also contributed three steals and two blocks.
Yandrisevits scored 21 of her 28 points in the second half to help ESU recover from a 37-33 halftime deficit. ESU scored 52 points in the second half and 85 in the game, both season-highs.
Against Edinboro, Yandrisevits had 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and a career-high four blocks. She was 7-of-12 from the floor and shot 68 percent (17-of-25) for the week.
Yandrisevits ranks 10th in the PSAC in both scoring (14.0 ppg) and rebounding (7.1 ppg) this season and is in the top 10 in field goal and free throw percentage. She will enter 2008 with 935 career points and is on track to become the 12th 1,000-point scorer in school history.
Yandrisevits was the player of the week twice last season and was first team All-PSAC East. She earned three weekly awards and was the PSAC East Rookie of the Year and second team all-conference as a freshman.
ESU enters the holiday break with a 4-5 record and will look to get back to .500 on Saturday, Jan. 5 with a 1 p.m. game against Clarion.
