Box Score

LOCK HAVEN - East Stroudsburg University scored the first nine points of the game and never trailed in a 78-63 victory at Lock Haven on Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's basketball.

Redshirt freshman Karla Cardona had 14 points and senior forward Monika Fogelsanger added 11 for the Warriors (1-3), which had nine players score at least five points each. It was ESU's first win of the season after losing its first three games by a total of six points.

Freshman guard Kristen Murray hit a three-pointer and a jumper on consecutive possessions to give ESU a 9-0 advantage four minutes into the game, and Lock Haven (1-5) never got closer than four the rest of the way.

The Warriors held a 39-31 lead at halftime after a layup by Cardona with three seconds left, and put the game away with an 8-0 run early in the second half after the Bald Eagles got back within six.

ESU eventually stretched its advantage to 23 (66-43) on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Mel Villano with six minutes left, and to 24 on a three by senior guard Sheila Gallagher in the final two minutes before the Bald Eagles scored 10 of the last 11 points.

ESU forced 29 turnovers and came up with 15 steals, led by three each from Villano and junior guard Keri Cahill.

Junior guard Jackie Yandrisevits and freshman guard Amanda Pavalko scored eight points each, Villano and Murray both had seven and Gallagher and freshman forward Casey Stanton both scored six points to contribute to the balanced scoring effort for ESU.

The Warriors will face Shippensburg in PSAC crossover action on Sunday at 1 p.m.
