EAST STROUDSBURG – The 43rd annual East Stroudsburg University Open Wrestling Tournament will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Koehler Fieldhouse. One of the oldest open wrestling tournaments in the nation, the ESU Open annually attracts top talent from around the country.

ESU Receives Waiver from NCAA for Division II Championship Eligibility
EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University has been notified by the NCAA that the Division II Membership Committee has granted the university's request to waive the two-year reclassification process for its wrestling program, which will become eligible for Division II championships selection effective September 1, 2009.

Birchler Falls to No. 4 Rosholt (Oklahoma State) in Overtime, Places in Top 12 at NCAA Championships
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Chris Birchler's run at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships ended just short of All-America honors, as East Stroudsburg University's junior heavyweight fell to No. 4 seed Jared Rosholt of Oklahoma State, 3-1, in sudden victory in consolation action on Friday night at the Scottrade Center.

EAST STROUDSBURG - Redshirt senior wrestler Matt Swallow has been named the ABC Trophy, Inc. Athlete of the Week at East Stroudsburg University after winning all three of his matches at 133 pounds during a 2-0-1 week for the Warriors.

BOSTON, Mass. - Redshirt senior Matt Swallow earned the only bonus points of the day with a major decision at 133 pounds and East Stroudsburg University took a 19-12 dual victory over Boston University at Case Gym on Sunday afternoon.

Warriors Get Set for Home Opener Thursday vs. Delaware Valley
EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University's wrestling home opener on Thursday night at Koehler Fieldhouse will be televised on Blue Ridge TV-13 on Thursday and Friday evening at 10:30 p.m.
The Warriors, who wrestled their first 13 duals away from home, will take on Delaware Valley at 7 p.m. in the first of their three home duals this season.

ASHLAND, Ohio - The East Stroudsburg University wrestling program picked up a pair of victories at the Ashland Duals on Saturday, defeating the hosts 21-19 and outlasting Findlay 20-19. The Warriors fell to Purdue in their final match of the day.

VESTAL, N.Y. - Junior heavyweight Chris Birchler had a pin in the first minute and redshirt senior 149-pounder Scott Heckman won by technical fall in his first action of the season, but Binghamton won a 24-17 verdict over East Stroudsburg University on Thursday at West Gym.

PHILADELPHIA - Shane Mallory, Chris Birchler and Matt Swallow won their matches to give East Stroudsburg University an early 11-4 lead, but Drexel rallied to win the final six bouts to give head coach Jack Childs his 396th career victory in the dual match opener for both schools on Tuesday night.

EAST STROUDSBURG - Entering his second season as the head wrestling coach at East Stroudsburg University, Joey Rivera feels he has his program going in the right direction. Juniors Chris Birchler, Shane Mallory and senior Matt Swallow all return for the 2008-09 Warriors, along with redshirt senior Scott Heckman, who was the PSAC champion at 149 pounds two years ago before missing most of last season due to injury.

ESU Announces Athletic Department Restructuring for 2009-10
EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University will restructure the varsity athletics status of its wrestling and men's volleyball programs effective with the start of the 2009-10 academic year. The wrestling program will be reclassified to compete at the NCAA Division II level, and the men's volleyball program will compete at the club level.
