EIWA Bracket

LANCASTER - Senior Dave Williams pinned No. 3 seed Nick Sommerfeld from Columbia eight seconds into the third period in his first consolation match on Sunday and finished sixth in the 197-pound bracket at the EIWA Championships at Franklin & Marshall.

Senior Sean Carr (141) and sophomores Shane Mallory (174) and Chris Birchler (285) all lost their first match on Sunday to wrestlers seeded in the top three who were forced to wrestle back through the consolation bracket after falling in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Williams' pin of Sommerfeld was his second of the tournament and the 20th of his career (35 wins total). He fell 10-2 to No. 4 Thomas Shovlin of Penn, with Shovlin moving into the 3/4 bout and securing a trip to the NCAA Championship.

Williams dropped a 9-8 decision to Cornell's Justin Kerber, the No. 2 seed, in the 5/6 match-up. Kerber won by technical fall (20-4) over Williams in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

No. 3 Steve Adamscik (Rutgers) defeated Carr 11-6 in the final match of his career at ESU to end his senior season at 23-11.

Birchler, the No. 6 seed, was pinned by No. 2 Trey McLean of Penn in the second period. Birchler finishes his first year at ESU with a 25-10 record after going 2-2 at the EIWA tournament.

Mallory lost by a 14-6 major decision to No. 3 Justin Herbert of Franklin & Marshall in their third meeting this season. Mallory was 19-15 as a sophomore and will take a 34-28 career record into the 2008-09 season.
