EAST STROUDSBURG - High school teammates Andrew Arnold and Adam Hluschak (Slatington/Northern Lehigh) highlight the East Stroudsburg University wrestling recruiting class, which was released by head coach Jason Kutz on Tuesday.
Arnold was the Pennsylvania Class AA champion at 125 pounds as a senior at Northern Lehigh after finishing sixth at 119 as a junior. He was 120-18 in his career and is projected to wrestle at either 125 or 133 at ESU.
Hluschak was a four-time state medal winner and finished fifth at 130 pounds as a senior and won silver at 125 in 2006. He was fourth at 103 pounds as a freshman, and was eighth at 119 as a sophomore to help Northern Lehigh to the 2005 PIAA Class AA state championship. Hluschak closed his career with a record of 160-30 and will wrestle at either the 133 or 141 pound weight classes as a Warrior.
Five other recruits were state medal winners as seniors, while Chris Birchler (Fairfield, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), a 6-3, 270 pound heavyweight, is transferring to ESU from Caldwell College (N.J.), which does not have a wrestling program.
"I'm very excited to welcome the members of this recruiting class to campus this fall," Kutz said. "This is one of the top groups of student-athletes to join the ESU wrestling program in recent memory."
"The thing that I was most impressed with is that all of the recruits are on the same page with what it will take to get ESU wrestling to the next level. They are already on board with our philosophy, system and beliefs and will be ready to hit the ground running when we begin training for next season," Kutz said.
