HUNTINGDON- The East Stroudsburg University men's volleyball team battled to a 31-29 win in the first game but Juniata College won the next three and beat the Warriors, 3-1, Wednesday in the first round of the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association playoffs.

Juniata, which won the past three Division III national titles, won by scores of 29-31, 30-20, 30-25, 30-21 to improve to 14-12. The Eagles will play at St. Francis Saturday in the quarterfinals.

ESU, the seventh seed after winning the Hay Division, ends its season 16-8. Next season, the Warriors will move up and play in the Tait Division with home-and-away matches against Penn State, George Mason, St. Francis, Rutgers, Princeton and Juniata.

Jon Daley led the Warriors with 17 kills while Thomas German had 10 kills and seven digs. Keith Eckenrode had 10 kills, three aces and two digs while Jeff Quinn had seven kills and three digs. Mike Oswald had five kills and four digs. Adam Holdredge had 46 assists and an ace to go with three digs.
