EAST STROUDSBURG - In their last match as seniors, R.J. Roth led the team with 13 digs, Jon Daley paced the attack with 15 kills, Jeff Quinn had five kills on six attacks and Kyle Duffy added five block assists as East Stroudsburg University defeated Sacred Heart in three sets at Koehler Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
Daley and Roth helped ESU (10-9, 2-5) get off to a great start in the first set by combining for 13 digs, and Daley and sophomore Don Hanna combined for 14 of the Warriors 18 kills in the first set. ESU defeated the Pioneers (11-11, 1-7) for the second time this season (30-19, 30-22, 30-28).
The Warriors posted hitting percentages of .424, .350 and .207 and combined for 41 digs to help shut down the Sacred Heart attack. Daley had 12 digs and posted his fifth double-double of the season.
Sophomore Josh Hobson directed the attack with 38 assists and junior Chris Holden was error-free with six kills on nine attacks for a .667 hitting percentage.
Roger Parent led Sacred Heart with 10 kills and Tim Sadowski had 24 assists.
The Warriors finish their final season as a varsity program at ESU with a 10-9 overall record led by record-breaking performances from Daley and Roth. Daley finishes his career as the ESU leader with 115 service aces and is second in both kills (1,226) and blocks (399), while Roth holds the record for career digs with 890 and posted the top two single-season totals in school history as a freshman and a sophomore.
Head coach Dustin Wood, a 2003 ESU graduate, completes his coaching career at his alma mater with a record of 39-47, which includes a 16-8 mark and EIVA Hay Division championship in his first season in 2006.
