SAN ANGELO, Texas - Junior Kenny Cardullo was 10th in the men's javelin and junior Janelle Smith was 10th in the women's high jump to lead a group of five East Stroudsburg University athletes who competed on the final day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at the LeGrand Sports Complex at Angelo State University.

Both Cardullo and Smith were making their third appearances in an NCAA championship meet and had the best finishes of their careers. Sophomore Lynn Mayer also competed in the high jump for the third time, while junior Matt Gallup went to the NCAA's in the pole vault for the second consecutive year and sophomore Bill Buis threw the javelin at the national level for the first time.

Cardullo's throw of 196-4 on his second attempt was four inches away from advancing him to the finals, while Buis had a mark of 195-9 that placed him 13th. Cardullo was 14th as a freshman and 12th a year ago as a sophomore.

Smith cleared 5-6 along with three other athletes and finished 10th on the number of jumps. She went over at the opening height of 5-4 1/4 on her third and final attempt and was successful on her first jump at 5-6 before going out at 5-7 1/4. Mayer, an All-American both indoors and outdoors as a freshman, was tied for 15th.

Gallup was one of four athletes who no heighted at the initial height of 15-11 in a men's pole vault field that saw all 19 competitors reach the automatic qualifying mark of 16-7 during the outdoor season.

The NCAA Championships wrap up the 2009 outdoor track and field season for the Warriors, who went a school record nine athletes - all underclassmen - and the men's 4x100m relay team to Angelo State.

Junior Paul Wagner (hammer throw) was the Warriors' only All-American, while sophomore Jasmine Johnson (400m), junior Andrew McCloskey (100m) and junior Rusty Smith (110m hurdles) also competed in the prelims in their events. Smith was an All-American in the 60m hurdles during the indoor season.
