EAST STROUDSBURG - Junior Paul Wagner will be the first of East Stroudsburg University's nine track and field athletes to go for All-America honors at the 2009 NCAA Division II Championships this weekend at Angelo State in San Angelo, Texas.

Wagner will compete in the finals of the men's hammer while sophomore Jasmine Johnson (400m), junior Andrew McCloskey (100m) and the men's 4x100m relay team will all run in the preliminary round of their events on Thursday. Junior Rusty Smith (110m hurdles) is in the prelims on Friday, while the championship action will take place on Saturday at the LeGrand Sports Complex.

Below is the complete schedule for the Warriors this weekend along with brief capsules for each athlete.


Thursday (all times Central)

Men's Hammer (12:30 p.m.) - Paul Wagner, junior
2nd NCAA appearance (1st outdoors) ... qualifying mark of 190-7, 12th nationally ... placed 9th in weight throw at 2009 NCAA indoor championships ... holds PSAC record of 190-7 and PSAC outdoor championship record of 190-3 ... four-time PSAC champion (two indoors in weight, two outdoors in hammer the last two years).

Men's 4x100m Relay prelims (5:30 p.m.) - Asher Ashfield, Chris Reddick, Jeff McClenton, Andrew McCloskey
1st NCAA appearance (1st relay selected to compete in school history) ... qualifying time of 40.83 seconds, 10th nationally ... first ESU men's 4x100m relay to win PSAC title since 1978 ... comprised of one sophomore (Ashfield) and three juniors who have combined to set five individual school records and lowered the 4x100 record by almost a second (.95) this season.

Women's 400m prelims (6:10 p.m.) - Jasmine Johnson, sophomore
1st NCAA appearance ... qualifying time of 56.06 seconds, 13th nationally ... first ESU woman to compete at NCAA outdoor championships at distance under 1500m ... ran fastest 4x200m relay split in school history (24.5) at Penn Relays ... third in 400m at last two PSAC outdoor championships.

Men's 100m prelims (6:55 p.m.) - Andrew McCloskey, junior
1st NCAA appearance ... automatic qualifying time of 10.41 seconds, 8th nationally ... first ESU men's sprinter to compete at NCAA championships ... Men's Athlete of the Meet at PSAC championships ... PSAC champion in 100m and 200m and anchored 4x100m relay ... was NCAA provisional qualifier in 200 (21.35) ... first ESU sprinter to win 100 and 200 since 1977 and one of two ESU athletes to win three PSAC titles at the same meet.


Friday

Men's 110m Hurdles prelims (7:35 p.m.) - Rusty Smith, junior
3rd NCAA appearance (1st outdoors) ... qualifying time of 14.41 seconds, 10th nationally ... two-time indoor All-American in 60m hurdles (8th in 2008, 5th in 2009) ... can become fifth ESU men's athlete to earn three All-America honors ... two-time PSAC champion (55m hurdles indoors, 110m hurdles outdoors) ... holds three school records.


Saturday

Men's Javelin (11:00 a.m.) - Bill Buis (sophomore) and Kenny Cardullo (junior)
Cardullo - 3rd NCAA appearance (3rd outdoors) ... finished 14th as a freshman and 12th as a sophomore ... qualifying mark of 203-3, 10th nationally ... Buis - 1st NCAA appearance ... qualifying mark of 201-1, 16th nationally ... ESU has had nine All-Americans in the men's javelin since 1971, the most of any event.

Men's Pole Vault (5:00 p.m.) - Matt Gallup, junior
2nd NCAA appearance (2nd outdoors) ... automatic qualifying mark of 16-7, one of 19 automatic qualifiers in the field ... four-time PSAC champion (twice indoors, twice outdoors the last two years) ... won PSAC outdoor championship at 16-0 3/4 ... reached automatic qualifying height on May 1 at Kutztown ... holds school record at 16-8 3/4 (outdoors) and 16-0 1/2 (indoors).

Women's High Jump (5:35 p.m.) - Lynn Mayer (sophomore) and Janelle Smith (junior)
Mayer - 3rd NCAA appearance (2nd outdoors) ... two-time All-American as a freshman (tied for 5th indoors, 6th outdoors) ... qualifying mark of 5-7, 15th nationally ... qualified and was second at Penn Relays ... cleared 5-8 at NCAA outdoor championships last year ... can become third ESU women's athlete to earn three All-America honors ... Smith - 3rd NCAA appearance (2nd outdoors) ... qualifying mark of 5-7, 15th nationally ... qualified and won women's eastern college high jump at Penn Relays ... 13th indoors and tied for 17th outdoors at NCAA's as a sophomore.
