EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University junior Matt Gallup has been named the PSAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week after reaching the NCAA Division II automatic qualifying standard in the pole vault on Friday at Kutztown.

Gallup (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) cleared 16-7, the second-best mark of his career, to qualify for his second straight NCAA outdoor championship. He is the third ESU men's track and field athlete to be honored by the conference this year, joining sprinter Andrew McCloskey and thrower Paul Wagner.

Gallup is a three-time PSAC champion in the pole vault, winning the indoor title as a sophomore and a junior and the outdoor championship last season, where he set ESU's school record at 16-8 3/4 and qualified for the NCAA Championships at Mount San Antonio College in California.

The 2009 NCAA Division II Championships will be hosted by San Angelo State (Texas) on May 21-23. Gallup is the Warriors' only automatic qualifier to date, while nine athletes, along with the men's 4x100m relay team, have reached provisional marks.

ESU will compete in the PSAC Championships on Friday and Saturday at Millersville.
