EAST STROUDSBURG - Junior Rusty Smith has been named the PSAC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and East Stroudsburg University's ABC Trophy, Inc. Athlete of the Week after winning the 60m hurdles at the Thomson Invite at the University of Delaware on Saturday.

Smith (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany), returning Division II indoor All-American, ran a time of 8.33 seconds to beat his closest competition in a field of 30 Division I, II and III athletes by .40 seconds.

Smith remained undefeated in the hurdles in five meets this season going into the 10th Annual DeSchriver Invitational on Saturday at Koehler Fieldhouse. He will also compete against some of the top Division I athletes in the country on Friday in the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at The Armory in New York City.

He has the top time in the PSAC this winter and will be looking for his first PSAC championship when ESU hosts the conference meet on February 28 and March 1.

ABC Trophy, Inc. awards an athlete of the week to an outstanding student-athlete each week at ESU. Each recipient is presented with a red and silver plaque.
