EAST STROUDSBURG - Sophomore Trina Carito and junior Kristen Morby have earned spots on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II team in track and field to help East Stroudsburg University lead the PSAC in Academic All-District selections during the 2007-08 academic year.
The Warriors had 10 student-athletes receive Academic All-District recognition this year, more than twice as many as any other institution in the PSAC. The college division of District II includes all Division II and III institutions in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Washington, D.C. and West Virginia.
Carito (Greenfield Township/Lakeland) won PSAC championships in the triple jump indoors and the heptathlon outdoors and competed in the heptathlon at the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships two weeks ago.
She has a 3.86 grade-point average in Chemistry and Secondary Education and is the only Warrior to be named first team Academic All-District this year. Her name will be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America honors later this month.
Morby (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) has a 4.0 GPA in Physical Therapy and is a member of the second team. She owns a share of the ESU outdoor record in the pole vault at 10-6 along with teammate Stephanie Weber.
The Academic All-District teams are voted on by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors Association). Nominees must have at least a 3.2 cumulate GPA and be a starter or key reserve.
Seven of the Warriors' 10 Academic All-District selections were also members of the All-PSAC team in their respective sports, and men's soccer player Danny Drago was a second team All-American last season.
