EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University sophomores Drew Miller and Paul Wagner have earned spots on the 2008 Men's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II All-Academic Team, it was announced this week.
Miller and Wagner are among 109 student-athletes who were named to the team for compiling a grade-point average of 3.25 or higher while reaching the Division II indoor or outdoor provisional qualifying standard in at least one event this year.
Miller (Lewisburg/Lewisburg), a Health and Physical Education major with a 3.48 GPA, went to the NCAA championships in the triple jump during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. He was the PSAC triple jump champion in both seasons and placed 10th in the NCAA indoor meet.
Wagner (Titusville, N.J./Hopewell Valley) has a 3.80 GPA in Sport Management and reached the qualifying standards in the hammer (outdoors) and the weight throw (indoors). He was the PSAC Field Athlete of the Meet during both the indoor and outdoor seasons when he broke the school record and won conference titles in both events.
Sophomores Trina Carito and Janelle Smith were named to the USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Team last week. ESU student-athletes have garnered several academic awards this year, including placing a conference-best 10 athletes on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II teams in 2007-08.
