Barry Krammes featured in the Pocono Record
EAST STROUDSBURG - Barry Krammes, a two-time All-American in the javelin at East Stroudsburg University and a social studies teacher at East Stroudsburg South High School, will compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials on Friday night in Eugene, Oregon.
Krammes has finished fifth in the nation at the last two U.S. Track & Field Championships in Indianapolis, and will be competing for one of 12 spots in Sunday's final. He is seeded 15th in a field of 24 throwers entering Friday's trials.
He has experience throwing at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon, as he won the Oregon Twilight Meet in May 2007 with a throw of 238-1, and enters the competition with a personal best of 244-5 at the Victoria International Track Classic three weeks ago in British Columbia.
Krammes graduated from ESU in 2004, when he was the school's Male Senior Athlete of the Year, and was an All-American in 2002 and 2003. He has taken time off from teaching at East Stroudsburg South to train at the University of North Carolina this spring in preparation for the Olympic Trials.
Krammes has been a big meet thrower throughout his career, setting personal bests at the U.S. Nationals each of the last two years. He was a relative unknown at the national level in 2006 when he entered as the 18th seed, but uncorked a throw of 241-11 to place fifth. He repeated the finish with a mark of 243-4 last summer, which stood as his PR until last month.
The USA Network (Blue Ridge channel 35) will broadcast the Olympic Trials on Friday, July 4th from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. The men's javelin final will be held on Sunday at 7:15 p.m., with NBC providing coverage of the final night of the trials beginning at 7:00 p.m.
