BLOOMSBURG – Mercyhurst won a pair of tennis matches against East Stroudsburg University on Sunday, posting a 7-2 victory in the women’s match and winning by a 5-4 score in the men’s contest.

Juniors Katie D’Ambrosia (No. 2) and Jamie Ferrigno (No. 3) both won their singles matches for the ESU women, while Alex Santoro went to three sets in the No. 4 singles match before falling to Rebecca Haener.

In the men’s match, ESU won all three doubles flights before Mercyhurst came back to win five of the six singles match-ups, including two victories in three sets.

Junior Will Norris and freshman Will Norris posted an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, Jared Rosenberg and Seth Heller won 8-5 at No. 2 and Mark Covert and Zach Ontell won 8-3 at No. 3.

Ontell earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at fifth singles to give the Warriors a 4-0 lead before the Lakers rallied to win the match with straight-set wins from Ron Heurich at first singles, Adam Marnik at third singles and Juan Franco at fourth singles and three-set victories at No. 2 and No. 6.

ESU’s men’s team will play at St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday, while the women are off until both teams travel back to Bloomsburg for the ITA East Regionals next weekend.
