WEST CHESTER - Freshmen led the way as Amanda Kaufman had a three-set win at No. 1 singles to help the women to a 6-3 win, and Mark Covert, Andrew Makos and Dalton Barton all won a pair of matches in a 7-2 victory for the men as East Stroudsburg University swept West Chester in PSAC tennis on Wednesday.

Kaufman's 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 win over Maria Kostaris at the top singles spot was a big victory for the ESU women and sophomore Jamie Ferrigno and freshman Angela Teri won twice for the Warriors.

Ferrigno beat Kara Shumock 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles and teamed with Katie D'Ambrosia for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Teri and junior Marissa Tanner notched an 8-5 victory at third doubles, and Teri earned a 6-2, 7-5 decision to pick up the point at sixth singles. Senior Sarah Deisher was a 6-4, 6-2 winner for the Warriors at fourth singles as well.

On the men's side, ESU posted wins at first and third doubles and each of the last five singles spots. Covert and sophomore Will Norris won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles and Barton and Makos won 8-6 at No. 3 doubles, while senior Rob Mikolon and sophomore Zach Ontell dropped a 9-8 (7-4) decision at No. 2.

Covert earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Matt Thomas at No. 2 singles, Mikolon won 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 spot and Ontell outlasted Alan Day, 7-5, 7-5 at No. 4.

Makos and Barton completed the Warriors' run in singles with wins over brothers Michael and William Ensor. Makos took a 6-2, 6-0 win over Michael at No. 5 and Barton went to a second-set tiebreaker for a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) victory at No. 6.
