HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Kyle Doebler and Jeff Kurz won at first and second singles, and posted an 8-2 victory in the No. 1 doubles match, to lead the East Stroudsburg University men's tennis team to its first win of the season, 8-1 over the University of Charleston (W.V.) on Wednesday as the Warriors wrapped up their spring break trip to South Carolina.

The ESU women were swept 9-0 by Ashland (Ohio) despite competitive doubles performances by Mandie Rutt and Shana Morris, who fell 8-6 at No. 1, and Katie D'Ambrosia and Jamie Ferrigno, who suffered a 9-7 loss at No. 2.

Doebler and Kurz defeated Matt Hughes and Victor Machado 8-2 in doubles action for the Warriors men. Doebler posted a three-set, come-from-behind win (1-6, 7-6, 7-5) at first singles and Kurz won 7-6, 6-4 at second singles to set the tone for ESU.

All three doubles teams won, and Will Norris (No. 4), Juliana Taibi (No. 5) and Rob Mikolon (No. 6) each had victories in the bottom half of the lineup to help the Warriors to their inaugural victory this spring.

Ferrigno dropped a 7-6, 6-2 decision at fourth singles for the women, and D'Ambrosia (No. 2) and Sarah Deisher (No. 5) both had close losses.

The Warriors will open their northern schedule on Saturday, March 29 when they travel to Philadelphia University for a 1 p.m. match.
